💡 Three nuclear energy innovation news this week!
🍕 Enel Group and newcleo sign a Cooperation Agreement aiming to work together on Generation IV nuclear technology projects. Enel Group will notably provide specialized expertise and share its qualified personnel, in exchange for an option to position itself as first investor in newcleo's first nuclear power plant.
🍩 Five belgian stakeholders launch CYCLADE, a centre of expertise for the decommissioning of accelerators and cyclotrons. The grouping includes IBA, INTERBORING, IRE - Institute for radioelements, SCK CEN and TRANSRAD sa. It is estimated that approximately 200 medical cyclotron facilities worldwide are awaiting dismantling by 2040, equivalent to 18,000 tons of steel and other metals.
🪨 TerraPraxis will assess Seaborg Technologies' molten salt reactor as a potential heat source for its Repowering Coal programme. The latter was launched at COP26 - UN Climate Change Conference with several partners including Microsoft, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Bryden Wood, and Schneider Electric. It aims to develop a standardised system for the repurposing of 2,400 carbon-intensive coal plants by 2050.
