💡 Three nuclear energy innovation news this week!
⛽ The SCK CEN (Belgium) successfully tests three low-enriched uranium fuel assemblies in the BR2 research reactor. Coincidentally, the IRE - Institute for radioelements (Belgium), another major producer of radioisotopes for nuclear medicine, completes conversion of its production process to low-enriched uranium
🤖 Sellafield Ltd and the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority unveil their AI strategy, with a vision laid out in two horizons. By 2027, AI will be routinely used to support decision-making. By 2032, AI will be established within advisory systems and non-safety-critical automation.
🧱 The UK Atomic Energy Authority (UK) and Kyoto Fusioneering (Japan) sign a collaboration agreement to develop fusion related technologies. The first project will involve the development of a fusion-grade silicon carbide composite system, which can be used as a structural material inside a fusion machine.
