π‘ Three nuclear energy innovation news this week!
π Succesful landing of the Chandrayaan-3 lunar probe of the Indian Space Research Organization. The main objective of the mission is to identify lunar resources. This includes helium-3, a non-radioactive isotope of helium, relatively rare on Earth but more abundant on the Moon, which can be used in certain nuclear fusion reactors.
π Curio LV raises a $100,000 strategic investment from Erez Capital. This comes in addition to existing support for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)'s ARPAe program and Synergos Holdings. The company focuses on the valorisation of nuclear waste to produce energy.
πΒ The Canadian Government approves up to CAD74m in federal funding for small modular reactor development in Saskatchewan, led by SaskPower. This will support pre-engineering work and technical studies, environmental assessments, regulatory studies and community and Indigenous engagement. The GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy BWRX-300 was already selected, subject to a decision to build expected in 2029.
