📢 Focus on World Nuclear Exhibition announcements!
🏆 Six additional startups selected for the France 2030 call on innovative nuclear reactors, for a total investment of 77.2m€ by the French governement and 18.9m€ of technical support by the CEA. These include Jimmy (high-temperature gas), Calogena (low-pressure light water), HEXANA (sodium), Otrera Energy (sodium), Blue Capsule Technology (sodium), and Renaissance Fusion (stellarator fusion). They join the ranks of NAAREA (molten salt) and newcleo (lead), which had been selected in June.
🦋 AtkinsRéalis (Canada) unveils the Candu Monark, a Generation III+ reactor in the definition phase. The new design, a 1000 MW reactor with the highest output in Candu technology, integrates tested and reliable features from existing Candu technology with modern engineering solutions. It boasts a 70-year operating life, improved cost per megawatt-hour, sustainability principles to minimize environmental impact, and full interoperability with digital twin technology.
💰 The Saskatchewan Research Council (Canada) receives a 80mCAD$ to support the demonstration of Westinghouse Electric Company's eVinci microreactor. It is a transportable heatpipe reactor that can produce 13 MWth or 5 MWe. Westinghouse already initiated a pre-licensing vendor review with the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission, with the target to have an operational deployment by 2029.
